Introduction

The provincial councils was established in Sri Lanka under the 13th amendments of the constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the western province road development authority was established through the Charter No: 04 of 1989 of which was passed by those provincial council at the first time in the history.

Accordingly, western province road development authority is a milestone of the administrative field, political field and provincial council.

Even though this Charter was come into effect from the year 1989, as an authority, its duties were officially started from the 01st day of January 1989. Accordingly, this authority has been assigned the responsibility to maintain and develop the road system owned grade “C” and “D” of western province published by the extraordinary gazette No: 582/22 dated 03.11.1989.
